The Light Workshop

We're finally on our last run in our workshop...and my gosh, I am struggling! LOL!!!

So how was it?

Wonderful! all I can say, I really was hesitant before since I'm not the online kind of person in learning, especially workshop. Come on, I go to classes and I hardly learn and now going on line where I the teacher is not there and I can take naps anytime I want to. Brenda asked me to join, no persuasion, she just said, it will be awesome to learn more about backlight. I was just nodding and said, okay. Then I went to this Review Site for Photographers, and was totally convinced(the first time I went, there was only one comment, and not from Brenda!LOL!).

What is the Format?
We have a message board, and everyone can submit it from there. They said that Dee and Deb talks online and on the phone too, well, they're moms, I don't want to bother them, and the lessons are very clear, with Dee's famous caricature/drawing if you can't understand the technical explanation of it, but yes, they are accesible, this is a workshop that is very friendly to moms and subjects too(if your subject is your child. Warning: this is not like ILP or 2peas, where everyone will have an opinion, so don't expect that when you ask a question, 3 minutes after, there is an answer, this is a class, and everyone waits for the expertise of Dee and Deb, we chipped in if we know the answer but sometimes the questions really are very technical, and hello, backlight is so hard to understand, it takes experience to read light and know how to handle it, so we wait.

It's a very nice format especially to busy moms like most of us photographers(I don't have kids, so I'm the lazy one!LOL! hey my models get grounded all the time, so I have a good reason why I don't get to submit fast!). We don't cram on assignments, like submit and thats the end of it. No, not to Dee and Deb, you submit it, not correct, give it back to you, TRY AGAIN! and they let you try again, not correct? return, TRY AGAIN!, they'll teach you how, but you have to try again, you can't just submit and be done with it, no try again till you make it right. It's very fullfilling. I think most workshop are to short, you submit they critique, done, that's it.

Not this one.

Will I ever used the technique after the Workshop?

Oh yes, Baby!

I don't know, if you just arrived and accidentally got in my site, I think my images just improved during this workshop, I know backlight, but know it well? no, now I know how to read light and where to meter it now, before it's all accidental and I don't know how to PP it so it's stays in my computer hoping one day, I will know what to do with it. Heck, when I walk and the person coming to me has the sun at her back, I know where to meter it and what kind of backlight I'm going to use, my gosh, call me a backlight geek, but I think I am! I'm just addicted to it.

At the end of it all...it takes practice. This I will share to you, Dee said she knows the light in her backyard even if she closes her eyes.

That my friend, is my Goal.
Information:
Next Class will be on Jan. 8, 2008. Please email Dee or Deb for Prices and schedule. Dee is planning to make a blog for this. I will update you with any other information too. I'm planning to join the next class being winter and nothing to do here in Illinois, I just have to make sure I have subjects who are willing to sit for me, if not, next summer again. =)

These look really great! Your whites are so white and your colors nice and saturated. I love the perspective. You've come a long way in the past year - congrats!

Where can I find more info on this lighting workshop? I see the link but it just has samples - no area that talks about prices, schedule, etc.
