My Backlighting

I still don't know if I understand it well. But I kept on reading over and over Brenda's Tip on Backlighting. Since I don't have kids to practice on. I bought home Snoopy & Woodstock from work and decided to practice on my backlighting.

I metered Snoopy with the lights at his back and read SS/30 at F/5.6 with ISO at 100. I backed off and decided to bump up the the SS to 40 and shoot and this is what I got. I really have to understand backlighting and practice more. But just always remember, that if you bump up the SS to 250 Snoopy will be dark and the background will be bright.

Steps did on CS2
  1. Adjust on levels.
  2. Tweak on Curves.

This week I think I'll really make it a promise to practice on Actions. At least I get to understand backlighting a little bit. If not, I was really planning to ask Amanda or Kari about it.

I love Snoopy, and when Brenda started the Snoopy talk, I realized that I can practice on my snoopy. I love snoopy, I try not to put a lot of it in my cube since I might not get taken seriously at work.

Good try! I use to love snoopy when I was a kid and I'm so disappointed none of my kids share my passion.
I think ss1/30 is way low. You could have up your iso to 400 and open wider to f1.8 to 2.8 and focus on the eyes(depending on your lens). You are right to meter off your whites so as to not blow them. This would have given you a faster ss. You must have steady hands. I cannot go under 125 (extreme minimum!!!)
Brenda is the master at backlighting. I love everything she does with it.
Glad I found your blog. Now I have more redaing to do!
